What OSHA 1910.146 requires

  • A written permit space program for every permit required confined space
  • Atmospheric testing before entry: oxygen first, then combustible gases, then toxic gases
  • An attendant stationed outside the space for the whole entry
  • Retrieval systems to facilitate non entry rescue whenever an authorized entrant enters, unless they would increase overall risk

Remote visual inspection does not replace your permit program. It lets your team do visual tasks from outside the space, so fewer tasks need an entry.
